Dallas can not effectively
manage and expand its urban forest until the city knows what
trees exist, their condition and locations. Toward this end,
the Committee seeks to complete the research phase of a 20
square mile pilot project for the city’s first tree
inventory and survey. This research project will help to
develop a new technology as a way to determine how many
trees are in Dallas, the species, location, and possibly
condition.
Afterwards, the full city-wide inventory and survey will
also determine the many benefits of Dallas trees including
increased air quality and reduced storm water pollution.
This inventory and survey is an important first step towards
a tree-lined Dallas.
For more technical details about the Research Project Phase
please see the Committee’s Inventory and Survey Report.
Tree Planting Projects
The Committee has future tree planting projects in
need of financial support. The Committee would like to
expand its Fall Foliage Showcase and
Adopt-A-Median
plantings to help beautify Dallas, and combat the Urban
Heat Island by making Dallas shaded and cooler.
Each donation of $400.00 will plant and help
maintain a 2-inch caliper tree for up to 2 years.
A donation of $600.00 will plant and help maintain a 3-inch
caliper
tree for up to 2 years.
IMPORTANT TO DONORS
To direct your financial support to one of the
Committee’s Priority Projects, please write or e-mail
the Committee Chair, Robert Curry
before or immediately
after your donation (see the details on the
How Do I Donate page). This will ensure the Committee
directs your support appropriately. General donations
for other very important forestry projects are also
welcome.
